In this section, I will analyze and reflect on my oral communication. Previously, I mentioned that written communication is important in business because it is often the first impression that you make with potential employers, peers, and coworkers. While written communication is often the first way of contact, spoken communication is equally, if not more impactful. Effective verbal communication determines if you maintain that good first impression you made with your writing. Oral communication shapes how you interact with people, colleagues, and supervisors, significantly impacting how you are perceived. Being a good communicator, especially in the information technology industry, can help you stand out and positively affect your impact and success in the workplace.
After reflecting on my speech, I have realized that one of my strengths is being able to speak loudly and clearly. This helps the audience hear and understand my message. Also, I am comfortable and confident when giving speeches, which helps me better connect with the audience and maintain their attention. However, something I tend to struggle with is remembering exactly what to say or how to structure my thoughts and convey them in an organized manner. I think I can address this with better preparation by giving practice speeches. In the future, I aim to become a more fluid speaker who can continue to communicate clearly and confidently. By building on my strengths and minimizing my weaknesses, I think I can contribute to my academics and my career.
