In this following section, I will showcase my written communication, including areas where I feel confident and areas I need to work on. I will also provide "dream" versions of some of the documents to help me identify the necessary steps to take in the future. Some of the documents included are my resume, cover letter, and communication with IT professionals. These documents are important because they are some of the most common documents I will have to share with others as a young business professional.
In business, written communication is an important tool in conveying information. As a freshman looking to grow his network and apply for internships, my written communication is often the first impression I make on potential hiring managers, peers, and industry leaders. A well-crafted resume, a professional email, or a positive note on LinkedIn can help set me apart from other candidates. As the field of Information Technology grows, the competition will only increase each year, so it is important to stand out.
Over this semester, I haven't written many academic papers or essays. However, I have used my written communication skills in real-life, more applicable instances. For example, I have written professional emails to professors, human resource departments, and peers. I will refine and adapt my writing based on experience and feedback throughout my college and professional career. Moving forward, I plan to keep an eye on trends in writing, particularly in the business and IT fields, and adapt my style and approach to stay current and relevant. I am actively becoming a better-prepared business professional by improving in this aspect.
